Dear Parents and Carers,

WBHS Students Shine

The last five weeks of Term 3 have seen our students continue to shine across cultural, sporting, service and academic endeavours. There are too many achievements to mention all of them in this newsletter (see the WBHS Facebook page and website for more) but highlights include: NSW TechGirls state champions, Col Witney Soccer Cup winners, chess success, fundraising BBQ's, Year 7 PBL project presentations, the Senior Boys' Tennis team came third in NSW, netball and league triumphs, HSC MAD Night, Cafe Presto, Senior Student Executive Induction Ceremony, HSC major project showcases, Book Week, Maths breakfast club, performances by rock bands Puerile and Industry Plant in Sydney, Raise mentoring, Stage 5 Science "Outside the Box", the Term 3 Wrap... WBHS students can do anything!

Year 12 Graduation and Formal

These were outstanding events and a great way to celebrate our Year 12 students. We wish them all the very best for their upcoming written exams (starting October 11). We are so proud of every one of our Year 12 students. Congratulations also to their families and support teams for all you have done for them along their HSC journey.

School Captains Recognised

Congratulations to Noah and Dakota for each winning a prestigious Minister's Award for Excellence in Student Leadership. They were recently presented with their awards by the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue Car at the Sydney Town Hall.

New Student Executive Team

I am very pleased to announce the 2023/24 Senior Student Executive team: Captains - Logan R, Jaz O; Vice Captains - Molly G, Koby H; Prefects - Connor C, Maddie C, James H, Ellen M, Tia N, Zayne R; Student Executive (Year 10) - Ella B, Macklin F, Bailey H, Daniel L, Angelina M, Charlie R, Madison T, Sam V (see photo below). I also want to thank our outgoing school captains and brilliant Senior Student Executive team. Over the past 12 months Dakota and Noah and team have led by example with integrity, dignity and honour. They upheld our school’s values with great distinction and have left a strong legacy. Well done and thank you.

New Sports Courts Complete

The old dilapidated netball/tennis courts have been resurfaced with top quality synthetic sports turf and are already being thoroughly enjoyed by classes and teams. The courts have six new netball posts and line markings for netball, tennis and futsal. See photos below.

Attendance Emails

Families should have received an email yesterday with information about their child's attendance rate for weeks 1-8 this term (July 17- Sept 8). The emails follow the attendance team's termly review of all students’ attendance patterns as part of our commitment to support excellent attendance and help students maximise their learning outcomes.  Thank you if you have previously advised the school of your child’s absences this term. And we appreciate that illness, medical appointments, unforeseen events, family holidays and other reasons mean that students sometimes miss school, and that it doesn't take many absences to fall below the 90% mark. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns around your child's attendance pattern.

And finally...

I hope that every student and their family are able to enjoy the break over the next two weeks. Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks for Term 4. School resumes for all students on Monday 9 October.

Regards,

Marcus Neale
