Life Ready

On Monday the 24th of March Year 11 participated in the first of four 'Life Ready' days. Life Ready is a program designed to empower students to take positive actions to be healthy, safe and well. It promotes positive and respectful relationships with each other and ones self.

Day 1 saw the students undertake a number of activities focusing on their mental health and mindfulness, study skills, goal setting and post school, travel tips and tricks.

The students enjoyed the day and found it refreshing to talk about different tips and tricks to assist them with their stress management as they move in to a more intense area of their schooling journey.

Year 12 Easter Fundraiser

This Easter, our incredible Year 12 students hosted a spectacular fundraiser, bringing together our school community for a day of fun, food, and fantastic entertainment. The event featured a high-stakes raffle, a sizzling BBQ, and electrifying live performances from both students and staff, creating a welcoming and magnificent atmosphere that spread throughout the school.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity and enthusiasm of our community, we raised over $4,000 to support Year 12 initiatives! A massive thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets, enjoyed a sausage sandwich, volunteered their time, or donated Easter eggs for the raffle baskets. Your support made all the difference.

Congratulations to our lucky raffle winners, and a big congratulations to Year 12 for their dedication in organising such a successful and rewarding event. Well done!

Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day)

Members of the Wellbeing Team celebrated Epilepsy Awareness Day, also known as Purple Day on Thursday 27th March.

We recognised those living with epilepsy – a cause that’s especially close to our hearts.

By wearing purple, we are helping raise awareness, start conversations, and stand together in support and understanding.

A big thank you to Bec McClelland for a delicious cake!

Year 9 Bay Day

STUDENTS PLAYING TUNNEL BALL

Year 9 students had a blast during the Term 1 WBHS Bay Day.

House trivia, heads and tails, tunnel ball and a tug a war made the experience all round a fun day led by our wonderful Year 9 Year Advisers Jeremy Lloyd and Matt Algie.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive!

Year 10 'Love Bites' program

Our Year 10 students participated in the 'Love Bites' program recently. 'Love Bites' is an interactive respectful relationships program delivered by trained facilitators.

The 'Love Bites' program is run across Australian high schools for students aged 15-17, and emphasises the importance of a whole-of-school commitment to respectful relationship education. The program includes workshops that provide a safe environment to examine, discuss and explore such things as violence, control, communication, consent and respect in relationships.

'Love Bites' takes a strength-based approach and views young people as active participants who are able to make choices for themselves and their relationships when supported with information and opportunity for
skill development.

The students enjoyed getting involved and had a great day.

Harmony Day

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our cultural diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

This year our school will be celebrated this event on Friday 21 March.

To show our support we had an out of uniform day where students could wear orange for a gold coin donation. The donations collected during roll call will be going to a local charity, Hunter Multicultural Communities, which works to support and celebrate our diverse community.

Different activities were held across the school:

  • Year 7 wellbeing lessons were centred around cultural respect and belonging
  • There was a poster competition (Australia wide for students)
  • The creation of a WBHS Harmony Day Cookbook.
  • A roaming WBHS Harmony Day photo opportunity, to capture what belonging looks like at our school
  •  In the quad at recess there was a flag competition, and the winner was the person (or teams up to four people) who could name the most flags from around the world. The winner will be announced at the next assembly and will receive their prize.
