Critical thinking, collaboration and imagination dominated the English/Drama faculties exploration of language, literature and literacy in 2020, resulting in a myriad of perceptive textual and dramatic experiences.
Our top highlights were:
Get Set 2021 - Scriptwriting
Students engaged in a brief introduction to scriptwriting including skills of brainstorming, workshopping, creating structure and developing characters. Students then worked together to produce an original Musical Theatre script for WBHS production in 2021.
Performance, Poetry and Music
Students engaged in a short study on performance and creative expression, centred around poetry, lyricism and music. Students then developed a performance and material they could take away from the workshops, as well as the skills, knowledge and hopefully inspiration.
HSC Drama – Individual Projects
Despite the restrictions of COVID the HSC Drama class of 2020 completed their Individual Projects and on 3 September, the HSC markers were here. All of the students produced their best work on the day despite the audience being restricted to just the markers and the teacher.
HSC Drama – Group Performances and Showcase
While the HSC Group Performance was not included in the External Assessment in 2020, the class completed a Group Performance as part of their Internal Assessment and presented these to an audience of Teachers and Year 12 students. On the night they also presented their Individual Performances.
OnStage Excursion
On Saturday, 8 February 2020, Ms Monk and Ms Cummins took a group of Year 12, 11 and 10 students to Sydney to see the annual Drama Showcase, OnStage. Held at the Seymour Centre, this showcases the best Performance, Scriptwriting, Film and Design projects from the previous years HSC.
