Highlights from 2021 were:
Leaders Wellbeing Conference at NEX
Following a special invitation to WBHS only, fifteen of our talented Music students had the privilege to provide music for the Leaders Wellbeing Conference at NEX on Tuesday, 23 November and Wednesday, 24 November. The students embraced this opportunity and performed with confidence. Principals and other educational leaders from across the region were entertained by our musicians across two days of high-quality performances in a formal yet relaxed environment.
Rotary Autumn Fair Performance Speers Point Park Rotunda
The Warners Bay High School Stage Band and Concert Band were invited to perform at the inaugural Rotary Autumn Fair. Thirty of our talented Music students performed in the rotunda showcasing to the community the excellent level of musicianship being achieved by the Warners Bay High School Music Ensembles.
Band On the Green
The Warners Bay High School Concert Band, Stage Band, Vocal Group and Elective music students showcased their talents at the Adamstown Soccer Club. The Band on the Green is a community initiative to increase performance opportunities for Newcastle and Lake Macquarie high school students. The concert was enjoyed by parents, friends and community members.
MAD Night
Warners Bay High School Music Ensembles, Music and Entertainment Students enthusiastically developed and performed at an excellent at MAD Night in Term Two. The students put together an outstanding show wowing and engaging audiences with their stage presence and unique and creative representation of modern rock pieces.
Lunchtime Concerts
The Warners Bay High School Rock Bands hosted a School Lunchtime Concert. Teachers and students enjoyed outstanding music performances. The School Lunchtime Concerts provide music and entertainment students with invaluable performance opportunities whilst creating a positive school culture and fun lunchtime atmosphere.
School Formal Assemblies
Selected music students from all years conducted themselves with maturity, responsibility and creativity in their performance at the Warners Bay High School Formal Assemblies. The Formal Assemblies are prestigious events that recognise student achievements. The Music staff are very proud of the young musicians who provided exemplars to the school and community of the high level of musicianship being produced at Warners Bay High School.
ANZAC Day Assembly
Twenty members of our talented WBHS Choir provided music for the School ANZAC Day Assembly. Heidi G represented the school with her musical rendition of The Last Post. The dedicated members of the choir sang beautifully and provided an important service for the school community.
Warners Bay High School Inaugural Rock Band Program
The inaugural Warners Bay High School Rock Band Program has been a great success. There are three rock bands consisting of passionate and committed students. The bands practice every Wednesday lunch without fail and most others of the week. They have performed at Formal Assemblies, Lunchtime Concerts and MAD Nights.
Congratulations Choir Leaders 2022
The Music teachers of Warners Bay High send their congratulations to the new Choir leaders for 2022: Madison T and Emily W. Madison and Emily have both been inspirational leaders in the last 3 - 4 years. They have actively engaged in every rehearsal and embraced all performance opportunities. Mrs Husband is looking forward to cultivating and implementing all their ideas and working collaboratively with them in 2022.
Stage Band Lockdown Orchestra
The Stage Band displayed resilience and commitment to Warners Bay High School’s music ensembles throughout the lockdown over Zoom. Our young musicians took part in virtual rehearsals, recordings of repertoire and even a Trivia Challenge! The music goes on!
Morton Rotary Scholarships
Congratulations to Ella H and Nicholas M. Ella and Nicholas were successful recipients of the Morton Rotary Scholarship 2022. Ella and Nicolas both auditioned for the scholarship in front of a panel of three judges. As successful recipients they were presented with their scholarship money and certificates during a concert in the Belmont Christian College auditorium where they performed with style and confidence in front of community Rotary members.
Starstruck Core Choir
Congratulations to Madison T and Patrick L who have received an early acceptance offer into the Core Choir for StarStruck 2022.
“The Buckleys” Concert and Song Writing workshop
Warners Bay High School were treated to a lunchtime concert to remember by the amazing country rock group ‘The Buckleys”. Students watched professional young musicians perform a rock concert with an accompanying light show. Afterwards Stage Six students were treated to a song writing workshop with the award-winning songwriters. Students were also able to do a question and answer session with the group asking them about repertoire choices and performance skills.
“The Rumor” - Performance Incursion
Eighty Elective Music students watched a concert by the musical and unique group “The Rumor”. “The Rumor” are professional musicians and music teachers. They modelled beautiful and creative arrangements of songs and performance techniques. Afterwards the students participated in a question and answer session with the musicians covering everything from microphone technique, repertoire selection and performance technique.
RESPECT
Sixty of our Elective Music students were lucky enough to participate in an innovative excursion hosted by the Sound and Music Department of Newcastle TAFE. The students were educated about respectful interactions and behavior in the music industry. Professional musicians shared inspirational stories of challenges and how they overcame them to succeed in the music industry. Our students were then treated to outstanding performances by TAFE Music and Sound Production students.
African Drumming Incursion
Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and vibrant incursion by the African Drumming Group 'African Beat'. Teachers and students alike were called upon to improvise performances and experience the joy and energy of the unique cultural experience African Drumming.
Musician of the Month
Every month an outstanding Elective Music student is chosen for Musician of the Month. Musician of the Month students are presented with a certificate and a $20.00 Musos Corner Voucher. This is a token of appreciation and recognition to our fabulous and hardworking music students at Warners Bay High School.
Triple J Unearthed High
Finalists, Samantha C in Year 12 and Austen L, Luke D and Noah W in Year 11 all had original compositions selected for Triple J Unearthed High. This is quite an accolade as competition is fierce with this Nationwide Competition. The students' compositions went into the Triple J Unearthed High Charts to be voted upon by the general public for the selection of Triple J Unearthed High winners.
Year 12 Music
It was a challenging year for our HSC Music students and COVID-19 restrictions did not dampen the spirits of our musically talented and hard-working students. We celebrate the achievements of all the Music students and acknowledge our one nomination for selection into Encore. Encore is the NSW State Showcase for outstanding HSC performances. This was an outstanding and commendable accolade which reflects the student's highly-developed level of musicality, performance skills, and commitment. Congratulations to our HSC Music students.
VET Entertainment
Congratulations to Year 11 and 12 Entertainment for completing all the requirements for their Certificate III in Live Productions and Services. Fynn HB, Dylan H, AIdan M, Hunter A, Timothy W, Will M, Levi K, Liam D, Mark E, Noah P and Ben R. The nationally recognised Certificate III in Live Production and Services introduced and immersed our students to the exciting world of live music and theatre production. This course has been their backstage pass to learn the skills needed to work behind the scenes on audio lighting, staging and vision systems at gigs, venues and theatres.
