Student Wellbeing

2024 Highlights

Love Bites

In Term 1, our Year 10 cohort participated in the Love Bites program which aims to provide young people with a safe environment to examine, discuss and explore respectful relationships. The program aims to encourage student reflection and growth by examining and transforming attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to foster non-violence. The full day workshop concluded with creative sessions, where students produced engaging posters with high impact messages about respect and independent decision making. Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

2024-2025 Leap Frog

This year, 22 Year 6 students participated in the Leapfrog Program for students requiring additional transition support while entering high school. The program delivered activities to build student familiarity, confidence, and resilience, making the transition into Year 7 in 2025 a positive experience. During the program, students engaged in a range of typical high school activities, including moving around the school to locate rooms and facilities, reading timetables, visiting practical Visual Art, Science and Technology classrooms and participating in

a Science and Maths lesson with their Year Advisers. Throughout the 4 week program, students met key personnel who will support them throughout their high school journey including the Head Teacher Wellbeing, Student Support Officer, School Counsellor and Deputy Principal and other relevant personnel. A highlight of the Leapfrog Program was the development of new friendships made by all students involved. Another positive experience for our incoming Year 7 students!

School Service Group

Throughout the year selected students, mostly from Year 10 but ranging from across the junior school have been working with Mr Greive on different projects to improve the environment that we all live and work in.

The latest and most impressive has been the refurbished old painted wooden table which has been painstakingly stripped back, sanded, filed, oiled and re-sanded. The finished product resides in the D-block courtyard and is a testimony to benefits of teamwork and persistence.

The students involved should be extremely proud of their efforts and be encouraged by what they can do.

Year 10 Wellbeing Focus Day

Year 10 visited Luna Park to participate in fun rides to celebrate the end of year 10. This was a day filled with celebrating the bonds formed in junior school and looking forward to senior studies. Despite the rain, a good day was had by all.

“Wired” by Brainstorm Productions

WBHS students in Years 7,8, and 9 participated in this engaging and thought provoking performance where students explore cyberbullying and mental health. Students are presented with real life scenarios and provided with strategies for resilience, help-seeking and positive relationships. The program is supported by a Q&A and curriculum-aligned classroom resources.

RoadWhyz

On 31st May, Year 11 will be participating in the ROADWHYZ program which is a joint initiative of NSW Police, NSW Ambulance Service and parents within the community. The program has been developed to assist drivers, in particular those young drivers from the age of 16 – 25, with the aim to provide all involved with the tools, skills and knowledge needed to stay safe on our roads.

Girl’s Strength Program

In Term 1, the Student Support Officer delivered a Girl’s Program in Year 10 with the objective of deepening students’ intrinsic personal value, increase confidence and self-esteem, and to set and achieve personal goals. The core focus of self-empowerment and ability to make decisions and solve problems when working to achieve goals made a positive impact on students’ overall attendance with a 14.7% improvement over the 10-week program. Student feedback on completion of the program indicated improved social connection and sense of belonging at school and a more focused approach to their education and post school goals.

safeTALK

At the end of Term One, our Wellbeing Team, including Year Advisers, School Counsellor, Student Services Officer and Head Teacher Wellbeings participated in professional learning focused on student mental health. Presented by a fantastic facilitator from LivingWorks, safeTALK engaged the team in training that aimed to equip them to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to respond and connect them with further help. Using a simple yet effective model, LivingWorks safeTALK empowers everyone to make a difference in the lives of our young people.

The Rat Race

From D-block to H-Block and from shares to tax returns Year 11 were tested in their knowledge of it all!! At the end of Term 2, our Year 11 cohort undertook a monetary themed scavenger hunt where they participated in scenario-based tasks to advance their knowledge. This task formed part of their Life Ready Program and had students deeply engaged in discussions based around their professional futures.

Mind Blank

On the June 28th, Year 8 participated in the Mind Blank Program. Mind Blank take the content of the mental health themes within the theatre performances very seriously. Their program provides support to participants about the signs and risks of mental health issues and highlights the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing.

Foodie Fridays

Mr Greive’s wellbeing groups have been involved in ‘Foodie Friday’. One group of highly trained baristas have set up a coffee cart on Friday mornings serving a host of warm beverages to staff in need. Later in the day a group of cooking enthusiasts, develop quick, easy meals that can be produced for weekday lunches and dinners. The development of these life skills have been invaluable for many of our students.
