Debating

In 2024, debating at Warners Bay High has flourished, with both a Stage 4 and a Stage 5 team performing exceptionally well in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Our passionate debaters have made impressive progress in honing their individual public speaking abilities, while also working together to craft compelling arguments and skilfully counter their opponents’ points of view. Congratulations to our Stage 5 team; Charlie I, Sophie E, Brooke O and Loriana G, who were Zone Champions and made it through two rounds of the Regional Knockouts. Additionally, well done to our Stage 4 team members, Chloe F, Ella V, Harry A, Misha C, Jack C and Joanna L . Our debating teams are to be commended on their collegiality, leadership and enthusiasm. We look forward to the creation of a Stage 6 debating team in 2025 to continue their success!

English Extension 2

Year 12 English Extension 2 students had another outstanding year, crafting a diverse range of major works spanning historical fiction, psychological fiction, and science fiction. With dedication and creativity, our authors devoted countless hours—both in class and independently—to researching, drafting, editing, and refining their final submissions. The exceptional results of this cohort are a testament to their hard work, as well as the invaluable guidance and support provided by their teachers and mentors throughout their writing journey.

Year 12 Drama Excursion

In June, Year 12 Drama students went to see an emotional and engaging production of one of their prescribed texts, Stolen, at the Wharf Theatre in Sydney on Thursday. It was a great day out and the students gained new understandings of the issues discussed in the play through the live performance.

Year 12 Advanced Excursion

In October, Year 12 Advanced English students experienced a live performance of their prescribed text, Past the Shallows, at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle. This fantastic opportunity allowed them to see the characters and story come to life on stage, offering fresh perspectives and deeper insights into the central themes of the text.

Warners Bay NBA

During Term 2, the inaugural Warners Bay NBA, led by Mrs Farrugia in the English staffroom, continued to draw in large crowds and provide lunchtime entertainment for the entire school. The competition saw over 200 students play in the group stages with four games every lunch break for a number of weeks. Staff and students battled for winning baskets on the court and the competition saw representation from all year groups across a wide variety of teams. The finals included some particularly close games that went down to the final seconds. Congratulations

to the Pelicans from Year 12 who eventually took home the championship trophy.
