Our top highlights were:
Introduced Inquiry Based Learning into Year 7 History Semester 2.
As an entry event an educator from Newcastle Regional Museum introduced students to the process of museum curation. 140 students were involved in the development of an Ancient Civilisation Convention where they were required to create an interactive display suitable for a museum going audience.
Incorporated Virtual Reality into the Year 7 History program.
Students were transported back in time to when Awabakal and Worimi people lived traditionally within the local lands of Newcastle. Using google cardboard sets and smart phones, the Niiarrnumber Burrai, or Our Country, video immersed students in Newcastle's landscape prior to European settlement with Elder characters sharing knowledge of their significant places, their traditional names and cultural stories.
Online Learning Environment
Adapted successfully to the online learning environment during Covid lockdown by streamlining the development of online learning resources for each year group using Google Classroom. There was a high rate of participation and student engagement in all History courses run via Google Classroom.
