Library Achievements 2024
In 2024, our library had another fantastic year! It remains a popular hub, with many students gathering during break times to explore creative play, browse our extensive book collection, or connect with friends over jigsaw puzzles, games or the various technology options available. Meanwhile, staff continue to explore both physical and digital resources, finding new ways to adapt and integrate them into teaching and learning within our dynamic library space.

Our fiction collection underwent an exciting transformation! With books now carefully sorted into genres, students can effortlessly find stories that spark their interest, making reading more engaging than ever. Eye-catching labels and detailed genre descriptions have put the finishing touches on our refreshed fiction section in 2024, ensuring an inviting and inspiring space for every reader.
Checkmate! The Chess Craze Grows at WBHS
Throughout 2024, the Chess Club thrived, welcoming new players eager to sharpen their skills. With in-school competitions held each term, students had the chance to test their strategies, refine their gameplay, and enjoy the challenges. The chess club’s success continued to grow, fostering a love for the game and a strong sense of camaraderie among its members.
Our Chess Team once again played in the Interschool Chess Challenge local heat at Rutherford Public School, hosted by the Sydney Academy of Chess. After an intense series of seven matches, their strategic moves and sharp gameplay secured them the 1st place school trophy, adding another achievement to their growing list of successes!
Building on our impressive performance at the local heat, our team advanced to the semi-finals, proudly securing the 3rd place school trophy. A phenomenal team effort, showcasing skill, strategy, and determination from every student involved!
Our Chess Team showcased their strategic skills once again in the NSW Junior Chess League’s Country Secondary Schools Competition for the Hunter Region. After a series of challenging rounds throughout the year, their dedication and sharp gameplay earned them the prestigious title of Hunter Region Champions in 2024.
Library Lovers’ Day 2024
Our annual Library Lovers’ Day was a fantastic celebration enjoyed by both staff and students. The day was filled with festivities, delicious, sweet treats, and heartfelt reflections, as students shared the many reasons they cherish our wonderful library.
Game Changer Challenge 2024
A record-breaking ten teams produced entries for the 2024 Game Changer Challenge, a dynamic design thinking program run by the Department of Education. Among them, The Fire Extinguishers impressed in the virtual semi-finals but narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals.
Bookweek Celebrations 2024
Book Week 2024 was another thrilling success, bringing excitement and literary magic to our school. Enthusiastic staff and students eagerly tackled a range of challenges, from a high-energy Mario Kart showdown to our much-loved Harry Potter Trivia. It was a fantastic week!
Makespace – Creative Play
In 2024, our library launched an exciting Creative Maker Space, offering students a new hands-on project to explore each week. The space quickly became a hub of innovation, with countless creative projects brought to life—much to the delight of our enthusiastic students!
Senior Study Hub
Our mission was to equip senior students with essential study techniques while keeping them organised, focused, and productive during their study periods. Each week, we delivered concise yet impactful presentations, providing key insights into their academic commitments, assessment updates, and effective study strategies. Over time, this initiative has flourished into a valuable collaboration between the coordinator and HSC teachers, fostering a supportive and structured learning environment.
