PDHPE

2022 Highlights

HSC Results 2022

Congratulations to the 2022 graduating cohort for some well-deserved results in their HSC. It was another successful year for our PDHPE and CAFS students. CAFS received seven Band 6’s and eleven Band 5’s and PDHPE received one Band 6 and eleven Band 5’s. These are some exceptional results that reflect the hard work and resilience these students have displayed over the past 12 months.

Child Studies Elective

The Child Studies elective is very popular among our junior students at WBHS. Throughout the semester students have been looking at the unit 'Food and Nutrition in Childhood'. This unit of work explored the different food options available for children with dietary requirements. Students developed quirky recipes meeting the needs of children with food intolerances and allergies by providing them with a hands-on practical experience to ensure all children are catered for, particularly at a birthday party’s and other social settings.

PASS Elective

One of the many subjects offered by the PDHPE faculty is Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS). This course offers a range of different activities and excursions that build good school culture and the ability to build strong rapport with students. It is well represented across the school and is very popular with students with a staggering five 9PASS classes and four 10PASS classes in 2022.

9PASS Camp

In this unit of work students were given the opportunity to attend the overnight ‘Berowra Waters Camping Excursion’ as part of their ‘Lightweight Camping’ unit. Students were expected to hike into Ku-ring-gai National Park carrying everything they need for 24 hours with an emphasis on ‘lightweight’- something which some of them struggled with! They were expected to carry all food, drinks and cooking utensils needed for all meals in which they also needed to prepare themselves. Besides the odd complaint about their rucksack being too heavy, the excursion was a success and one for the memory books.

Year 12 Cohort 2022

This cohort was particularly special for the PDHPE faculty as it boasts their two Year Advisers; Mr Steel and Miss George. Over the past six years the cohort became an extension of the PDHPE faculty and often spent more time in the staffroom than the actual staff. This year saw a range of fun activities including Focus Days, Life Ready, University Open Days, and dress up days to mark the end of their schooling. A highlight of 2022 was the ‘Staff vs Students – State of Origin’. It was an easy win for the staff, winning convincingly 6 – 1, with only a handful of staff injuries along the way.
