Our Open Girls Cricket Team travelled to Bathurst this week for the 2 day final event of the NSW CHS Marie Cornish Competition.
The team played Corowa High School on Tuesday, and thanks to some outstanding batting by Sophie C and Molly D, exceptional bowling and tight fielding by all team members, Warners Bay had a convincing win.
This result placed WBHS in the top 2 schools in the statewide knockout competition.
On day two the team faced Endeavour Sports High School in the final. Endeavour won the toss and elected to bowl on a damp pitch that didn’t offer many opportunities to score runs. Despite the trying conditions WBHS did their best and batted with great spirit and teamwork. As the sun came out and the pitch dried up, Endeavour were able to score the runs needed to win the game, and WBHS finished 2nd overall.
It is such an amazing achievement for a comprehensive high school to progress so far through a statewide competition and have the opportunity to play and win against specialised sports high schools.
At the presentation ceremony of the silver medals the CHS convener commented on how well our team had conducted themselves with exceptional behaviour, sportsmanship and skill.
Thank you to the family members who travelled with the team and provided great encouragement and support for the players. Thank you to Mrs Dare or your ongoing assistance and for scoring the games. Without your commitment to the team our trip to the finals would not be possible. It is greatly appreciated by all the players and the school community.
Congratulations to the team on such an outstanding achievement and thank you for being such wonderful ambassadors for yourselves, your families and Warners Bay High School.
