Flamingos Live Showcase

students performing on stage

Year 11 and Year 12 Music students recently joined forces to deliver an unforgettable evening of music at the iconic Flamingos Live Theatre Restaurant, formerly Lizotte’s. The venue provided the perfect backdrop for a vibrant and professional showcase, featuring over two hours of high quality, eclectic performances.

Year 12 students took to the stage with a preview of their HSC repertoire, impressing the audience with their polish, passion, and technical skill. Year 11 students also shone brightly, performing a range of works prepared for their current assessment tasks demonstrating versatility, creativity, and confidence well beyond their years.

From soulful solos to dynamic group numbers, the evening was a true celebration of the talent, hard work, and collaborative spirit of our senior music students. A huge congratulations to all performers for putting on such a memorable and inspiring show!

HSC Music Day

students at University of Newcastle

Year 12 had a fabulous excursion to the Newcastle Conservatorium for the HSC Music Day. Students participated in workshops on all components of the Music 1 course.

Our students, Charlie R, Darcy M and Ezekiel P, had the opportunity to perform Billy Joel’s “Root Beer Rag” in a masterclass! The day was an exciting opportunity to share ideas and collaborate with teachers and students from the Newcastle region.

Year 11 Music learning through actions

Our Year 11 Music students have been busy preparing for their upcoming Viva Voce exams, and their learning has been anything but ordinary.

In a recent hands on theory lesson, students explored musical structure through dance and movement transforming abstract concepts into physical, memorable experiences.

By embodying forms such as binary, ternary, and rondo, students were able to internalise structural elements in a fun, active, and highly effective way.

Laughter, creativity, and a few surprisingly graceful dance moves filled the room as the class quite literally moved through the music.

WBHS ANZAC Day Assembly

Our talented Vocal Ensemble gave a moving performance at the recent ANZAC Day assembly, honouring the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. Their heartfelt rendition of 'I was Only 19' and 'When the War Is Over' created a reflective and respectful atmosphere, helping the school community to pause and remember the significance of the day.

Congratulations to all students involved for their professionalism and the powerful sense of unity they brought to this important occasion.

Music staff, Emma Husband and Tavis McLennan, had the opportunity to do a Staff Presentation at the May P&C meeting.

The powerpoint presentation focused on shining a light on student achievement and celebrating the show cases and performance opportunities that students and teachers had collaborated to produce.

A special thank you to the P&C for their generous donation to the Music Department that allowed the school to purchase new digital lights for future showcases and events.
