Dear Parents and Carers,

WBHS is such a great school!

Over the past fortnight I have: enjoyed cheering our students as they competed in tennis and futsal tournaments; been thrilled by performances from our Year 11 and 12 musicians at Flamingos; been inspired by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they painted totem poles for the yarning circle; been proud of our students who volunteered to make the World’s Biggest Morning Tea such a success; loved visiting classes to see the quality teaching being provided by our staff every day.

The past five weeks have included: two school development days (High Potential and Gifted Education was the focus across the state), Road Whyz (Year 11), HSC Music Day at the Conservatorium, Year 11 and 12 Parent-Teacher interviews, lots of sport (open girls cricket, opens rugby league, tennis, table tennis, zone cross country, futsal) talks by local police youth liaison officers to Years 7-10, many excursions and incursions, Build Me A Future Challenge (which we won!), Raise mentoring, careers expos, Star Struck rehearsals, The Stars Align (Year 11/12 music showcase) - plus great teaching and learning in classrooms across the school. WBHS is a great school!

Aboriginal Dance Group

I was very excited to watch part of the first rehearsal of our Aboriginal Dance group. Thank you to Jacob Gray, WBHS Aboriginal Education Officer, for his leadership with this. Watch this space!

Mrs Curran Recognised

Congratulations to Mrs Curran, HT Science, whose outstanding teaching practice was recognised by the NSW Education Standards Authority with accreditation as a highly accomplished teacher (HALT). Accreditation at this level is a rigorous process including documentary evidence, plus interviews and observations by external parties. Mrs Curran also received a personal letter of congratulations from Murat Dizdar, Secretary of the NSW Department of Education. Well done, Mrs Curran.

C Block Boys Toilets Upgrade

The upgrade is going well and should be completed by the end of the term. The upgrade will include six additional cubicles, new floor tiles, higher cubicle walls, new taps/basin and a new entrance (quad side).

Promo Video Underway

Last week a film crew recorded footage of various classes and activities, and conducted interviews with staff and students. The film crew will return later this term on a sunny day to record outside. The end result will be a short video which highlights some of the great things about WBHS. The video will be posted on the school's website and socials.

Music At P&C

Last week's P&C meeting saw two senior students, Madison and Riley, each perform a piece (vocals and guitar respectively). Our incredible music teachers, Ms Husband and Mr McLennan, then outlined some of the outstanding music programs and opportunities provided at WBHS.

P&C Donation to the School

Each year our amazing P&C donates funds to the school. This year's grant of $21K has enabled the school to purchase:

  •  junior and senior rugby league jerseys (featuring an Aboriginal art design by former WBHS student Josh Honeysett)
  •  SLR and DSLR cameras for Visual Arts
  •  portable stage performance lighting for Music
  •  signage for our All Stars Hub
  •  novels and plays for English
  •  a 3D printer for the library
  •  a pedestal disc sander for TAS
  •  a thicknesser for TAS
  •  game show buzzers for Social Science
  •  physics and model kits for Science and
  •  a mounted TV for one of our tutorial spaces

Our students and teachers are very appreciative - thank you P&C!

Uniform

Uniform standards in recent weeks have been impacted by the rainy weather, making it difficult to keep uniforms clean and dry. Now that the weather is clearing, please ensure your child comes to school in correct uniform. If they are unable to wear the correct uniform, please provide a note and ask them to see Mr Glazebrook (C block) before 9am. If you need financial support to purchase correct uniform items, please contact the office. Hoodies (of any kind), gym tights/leggings, branded clothing and non-black shoes are not part of the WBHS uniform. Thank you for your support.
