On Wednesday the 21st of February Year 8 Visual Arts students went to MAC Gallery and viewed the exhibitions titled ‘First Class 23’ and ‘A Closer Look’ - Australian Society of Miniature Art.
Students engaged in discussions and Critical and Historical investigations. Students were also given the opportunity to work with the subject matter of the ‘Landscape’ to create some visual responses to the world around them using abstraction and oil pastel technique.
After a pit stop at McDonalds, students then formed groups to create a 3 dimensional sculpture from sand at Nobbys beach. We also walked around the promenade to take photographs of different landscape perspectives around Newcastle Baths, which will form the subject matter for our next body of work. It was a great day to explore their immediate world around them as a source of inspiration for their own artmaking practice.
