Swimming Carnival

Another great school swimming carnival at Wallsend Swimming Pool. The carnival combines the event with competitive races and fun novelty event allowing all students the opportunity to have fun on the day. Students competed for their respective house to accrue points to the annual schoolhouse championship points tally. It was a close tussle between Gelfius and Reid with Gelfius taking the win at the carnival. From our school carnival we had a 70 strong team who later competed at Zone with Warners Bay winning the Zone title. This was followed by Warners Bay High School winning the regional title also and propelling a 50 strong squad onto the CHS carnival. Warners Bay had at 30 strong team qualify for the All-School Swimming Competition. Sophie Hamiliton was successful in qualifying for the Worlds Junior Swimming event.

 Athletics Carnival

2023 saw another WBHS Athletics Carnival take place at the Fearnley Dawes Athletics Track. The weather was beautiful, and students were prepped and primed for another amazing day on the track and field. We saw a significant number of students experience success across a range of disciplines on the day. WBHS sent a 80 strong team to Zone to compete which consecutively had WBHS having 47 students qualify for the hunter competition. At each of our carnivals for both swimming and athletics across the three level our students displayed a high level of sportspersonship, they supported and cheered on their peers and most importantly had fun while representing our school in the highest manner.

Representative Sport

In 2023 WBHS entered a representative team in the all Combined High Schools knockout. Teams included but were not limited to Lawn Bowls, Table Tennis, Cricket, Netball, Hockey and Volleyball. For each sport we entered both a male and female team with varying success, but all teams had a blast. Some individual teams to note their success include:

Warners Bay High school had a representative team in all Oz Tag Zone Competitions they were successful in having 6 teams progress to the State Cup. All teams played well.

WBHS Open Boys’ Tennis team had one of the best seasons so far. They won the local hunter championship to progress onto a very competitive state round. Three of our boys were selected in the Hunter Regional Tennis team.

The Bill Turner Trophy’s Under 15s Girls team played a strong local competition to see them reach the final. Unfortunately, the girls were defeated by Merewether High School who later went on to win the State Tournament.

Our Buckley Shield Boy's Under 14’s Rugby League Team played some strong local competition to be named Hunter Champions.

We had both a girls and boys Under 14’s team qualify and compete at the National Futsal competition. This tournament took place in Queensland over a five-day competition. Our boys came third and our girls were undefeated until the grand finale where they were named runners up. Both teams had students selected in the All-School Futsal Team.

Another massive year for our sporting teams. This success was not limited to our teams but also we had a number of individual success. In 2023 we had over 30 students selected in the Hunter Schools Teams as well as students selected in State and National Teams.
