Cultural activities

Students at the beach

Our Aboriginal students have been involved in a variety of cultural activities. See below for the stories.

An informative and fun day was had by all the students.

Six of our Year 9 and 10 Aboriginal students attended the STEM day held at the Murrook Cultural Centre.

The students made some seed bombs of native plants to take home and plant out as part of the environmental science and sustainability program.

We then loaded up into 4wd’s and headed off to the dunes to learn how the environment is constantly changing and observe and learn about some Aboriginal artefacts within the dune system.

Our last stop of the day was to the Hunter Water treatment facility for the students to do a riveting recap of Year 7 mixtures topic, as we observed froth flotation and filtration on scales much larger than some dried peas in a beaker!

Numeracy Gala Day

Last term some of our Year 7 & 8 Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students attended a Numeracy Gala Day at McDonald Jones Stadium.

They had a fantastic time learning about some of the numeracy aspects that appear in the context of playing and coaching rugby league and even met some of the Knights players!

They were excellent representatives of the school and their effort and participation was praised by the organisers of the day.
