Our wonderful Music students and teachers continue to provide a significant contribution to both our school and our community. 

Our Ensembles are working incredibly hard to prepare for upcoming performances. These included The Year 7 and 8 Rock Bands practicing diligently for the MAP Mima showcase 22nd of November.

Big Band, Jazz Band are preparing for Bandfest. Bandfest is a regional school eisteddfod held at the Newcastle Town Hall in November. All are welcome to watch the program with times and dates will be posted on Facebook in the coming weeks date TBA.

The Choir welcomes new Year 7 members as we prepare to farewell our senior choir members. Choir Woodwind Ensemble and Jazz Band are preparing for the leaders Induction Assembly in Week 8.

WBHS Senior Woodwind Quartet

The newly formed WBHS Senior Woodwind Quartet has been formed.

The musicians in the quartet are our highly skilled Year 12 students Ellen Murray - clarinet, Hugh Patterson - alto saxophone, Logan Romani - tenor saxophone and James Husband  - baritone saxophone.

The students will be performing at several upcoming school events and community events including the Bandfest eisteddfod at the Newcastle town Hall.

 

 

 

NAIDOC Day Assembly

The WBHS Choir accompanied by the Naidoc Day Assembly Music ensemble collaborated with the JAECG to contribute to our moving Naidoc Day Assembly.

The choir and band gave musical, moving and dynamic performances of the songs”From Little Things Big Things Grow”. The songs honored Indigenous stories and values, the performances brought the school community together in a shared experience of respect, unity, and celebration.

 

 

 

Youth Rock

Congratulations to James H, Jack K, Elijah B and Liam W. The students are members of the rock band 'Industry Plant'. 'Industry Plant' were successful in gaining a place at the Youth Rock semi finals.

Youth Rock is a statewide Rock Band competition.

The boys gave energetic, highly skilled and dynamic performances of all original compositions. The performances and songs were marked by a panel of Industry professionals.

Youth Rock is a fantastic experience run by our students in conjunction with industry professionals for our students.

Parents and teachers were given a behind the scenes tour with a detailed explanation of the time, money and skill that goes into developing, running and hosting this excellent music competition for our school students.  A duo named Wild Rocket from Byron Bay were the winners of the event.

Suginami Sister School Concert by the Year 11 Music Students

Our talented Year 11 Music students hosted a concert for the visiting Suginami Sister School.

The students wowed our guests with a selection of their Year 11 assessment task pieces.

This was an excellent opportunity for Year 11 to gain important performance skills and to create friendships with our guests from Suginami.

Be sure to catch the Year 12 Music and Art students as they showcase a selection of their HSC Body of Work and Music Performances at the HSC MAD Night Wednesday the 4th of September.

Art Gallery doors open at 6.30pm with the concert starting at 7.00pm

$5.00 er family or $2.00 per person, eftpos available at the door. 

 

 

 

State Senior Woodwind Band

The State Senior Woodwind Band is made up of 41 students from NSW Public Schools. Two of our students joined the band this year showcasing their skills under the direction of professional conductors and performed at the Opera House.

The Band delivered outstanding performances of 'An Australian Rhapsody' by Ralph Hultgreen and 'Rising Dragons' by Robert W Smith. 

Congratulations to April W and Ellen M, these gifted students demonstrated  hard work and perseverance to prepare and practice for these impressive performances.
