Mid way through Term 2 saw the return of the Warners Bay NBA - our lunch time basketball competition.

This year we have 26 teams playing, with representation from every year, the teachers and the support unit.

The competition has already seen some big crowds supporting and a few surprising results.

Every team plays three games in the group stages with the top 14 teams qualifying for the playoffs. Group games continue next week.

Boys playing basketball

After over four weeks of daily basketball, 26 teams and over 200 players, the grand final was the 55th game of the competition.

It was a very close contest between last year's winners the Kings (Yr 11) playing the Pelicans (Yr 12). Click here to watch the highlights.

Congratulations to the Pelicans and to all students who were part of the competition: players, referees, scorers and spectators.

It was certainly an entertaining four weeks!

Rugby League Grand Finalists

under 14s and under 15s rugby league team photos

Recently, Warners Bay High School achieved the impressive feat of featuring two sides in the Hunter Rugby League Grand Finals, held at McDonalds Jones Stadium.

After moving through the tournament ranked undefeated, both the u14’s and u15’s teams earned the unforgettable opportunity to play on the same turf and warm up in the same sheds, as many of their footballing idols did, only a matter of days before.

Despite unmatched support from Warners Bay High students (120+), family, friends and alumni, both squads were bested by their oppositions on the day.

Congratulations to St Mary’s, Gateshead (u14’s) and All Saints College, Maitland (u15’s) who were well-deserved winners in their respective fixtures.

A big thank you to the members of our school community who have continued to support these boys along the way.

They came out on top taking out the win and will move forward into the Newcastle Knights Hunter Premiership Grand Finals for 2024 held at McDonald Jones Stadium.

For the second year running the U14’s Rugby League team took out the Buckley Shield. The team made the trip to Baddeley Park in Cessnock to take on Great Lakes College in the semi-final. WBHS took out a convincing victory to the tune of 26-8, to move onto the Grand Final held later that day.

Warners Bay met Rutherford Technology High School in the Grand Final; a game that went down to the wire. In the dying stages of the match, Warners Bay crossed to seal the game, 14-12.

Open Girls Hockey

Open Girls Hockey Team photo

Our Open Girls Hockey team competed in the CHS Knockout.

The girls began the day with a great win over Toronto 7-0. Goals to Evie F, Jemma G and Bridget P. The girls then took on a very skilled and well drilled Hunter Sports High. Unfortunately the girls went down 5-1 with our goal being an extremely well played team goal finished off by Lucy M.

For a number of girls this was there first taste of hockey and they played with enthusiasm and plenty of spirit.

A massive thanks to Mrs Kerri Ford who helped out with girls and a big shout out to Max R and Luke H for acting as our Umpires for the day.
