29 May 2024

On Monday the 13th of May we had 53 students across Years 7-11 engage in the first workshop day for the CAPA High Potential and Gifted Education Program for 2024.
The workshop consisted of a half day excursion to visit the Multi Arts Pavillion MIMA at Speers Point; where students worked in small groups in rotating workshops.
Students were provided with the opportunity to work with practising artist Wanjun Carpenter, Curator of the Lake Mac Arts MAP Mima space David Rastas, head Graphic Designer Deb Gill, Events Co-ordinator Angela Priest, and Media Lead Neil Keene, from Lake Macquarie City Council.
Students captured drone footage of the site and workshops, created a film installation using experimental modes of recording an image, gathered footage for a promotional video, engaged in lockbox activities and took sound recordings of the site to inform a sound scape installation.
After a busy morning immersing at the site, students then returned to Warners Bay High School for a pizza lunch and broke out into their groups to start to plan and create content for the CAPA HPGE Event being held at MAP Mima on Friday 22nd November.
Students will be working in the areas of Dance, Film, Media, Graphic Design, Sound Technology, Coding and Music Performance and will have three more scheduled half day workshops as part of the program.
All of the students showed passion and enthusiasm throughout the day and we look forward to working with them throughout the year.
Special thanks to all of the artists and professionals for volunteering their time to work with our students.
