Congratulations to the Open Girls Cricket Team on becoming Hunter Champions.
It was a great T20 Gala Day held at John Street Oval. Warners Bay High versed Maitland in the final after Maitland won a close semi-final against Merewether. Warners Bay won the toss and elected to bat. Sophie Clune was outstanding and scored 83 not out. Molly Dare played some great shots and scored 45 not out, off only 19 balls. Jemma Grieve and Isabella Bliss also batted well. Warners Bay finished the innings with 177 Runs.
The girls bowling and fielding was excellent. Imogen Jones took 1/16 off 4 great overs. Molly Dare, Isabella Bliss and Alex Cook also bowled very well. Evie Ford fielded at Wicket Keeper in her debut match and combined with Sophie Clune for 2 run outs. Warners Bay were able to keep Maitland to 93 runs to win the match.
A special thanks to Mrs Dare for scoring and Will Jones for his help umpiring. Thank you to the Merewether and Maitland High teams. All the games were played in great spirits in some hot conditions.
Congratulations to all the players for their sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour. Best of luck to the team as they progress to the next level of the competition in the new year.
