Dear Parents and Carers,
This week our school rallied together after one of our Year 9 students, Jack Lavelle, sadly passed away following a brave battle with brain cancer. Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Jack's family and friends.
Parent/Carer Survey
Thank you to everyone who completed the Parent/Carer Satisfaction Survey (187 responses at the time of writing). Feedback will be included in the 2024 Annual Report which will be published on the school's website by the end of the term.
Laptops & Devices
It is very important that students bring their laptops/devices to school every day, fully charged, to help support teaching and learning programs. We are also reducing our photocopying and moving more resources online to Canvas. New lockers are available if needed ($20 with lock provided or $10 without a school-provided lock). Thank you in anticipation of your support. Please contact the school with any questions.
High Potential Gifted Education at WBHS
WBHS is committed to recognising and fostering the intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical potential of our students. See here for an overview of ways our teachers are delivering a quality education in the High Potential Gifted Education space at WBHS.
Year 7 Connect Lessons
Year 7 'Wellbeing' lessons have been renamed as 'Connect' lessons. The purpose of Connect lessons is to help students grow and flourish as individuals, support wellbeing, assist with Year 6 to 7 transition, help develop key skills for life, and help students recognise and develop their character strengths. The Term 1 focus is on school and class expectations, teamwork, togetherness, and communication (including social media).
School Repainting
The repainting of the school exterior is well underway and looking smart and fresh.
New Foyer Furniture
Our administration foyer has new furniture featuring Aboriginal designs. The items were generously provided by our Gateshead Education Office. See photo below.
An Afternoon at WBHS
It was lovely to see so many Year 6 families on site last Wednesday for a presentation and tour around the school. It was so good to meet a number of parents and carers who had attended WBHS themselves and hear about their fond memories. So exciting to see generations pass through our great school.
Student Leadership Teams in the Herald
It was great to see our Junior AECG and Senior Student Executive leaders featured in the Newcastle Herald last week. See photo below.
Principal Network Day
Last Friday WBHS hosted 20 local principals, the Director Educational Leadership and Executive Director for the Lake Macquarie North Principal Network Day. WBHS was proudly on display including showcase presentations by Ms Lawler and five students, Ms O'Keefe and Ms Cotton. Our Year 12 Hospitality class and teacher Mr Moore catered for the event with a gourmet morning tea and lunch. Several of our student leaders greeted delegates as they arrived. My thanks to all staff and students involved in helping make the event so successful. See photo below.
SRE
Special Religious Education (SRE) has resumed for 2025 for Year 7. SRE takes place for one period each Monday. If you would like your child to participate in SRE, please email the school.
