Post School

The best way to figure out what you want to do after you finish school is to start thinking about what your plans are for the future when you are still in the last semester of high school. You may know exactly what course you want to do and what you need to get there or you may have some idea or you may have no idea at all.

If you only have an initial idea you may need extra time to make decisions and finalise your choice. To do this you will need information on the outside world, post school education and training.

In the world after school there are many options and paths that can be taken, including:

    • Apprenticeships

    • Traineeships

    • Employment

    • University

    • TAFE

    • Private colleges

    • A gap year for traveling, making money or gaining life skills

    • Community work or volunteering

Nowadays people without post school training are less likely to gain long term employment than those with it.

Remember future study costs money, weather it be course materials, accommodation, transport or course fees, so remember to factor this in. Financial assistance and support is available. Youth allowance or ABSSTUDY is two types of allowance you may be eligible for. for further information and to see if you are eligible visit www.centrelink.gov.au.

If you have any questions at all feel free to consult Ms Sommer or Ms Lavis to clarify your problem as it is best to fully understand what you are about to do as it will affect the rest of your life.
